Last night, as I was sleeping,

I dreamt–marvelous error!–

that a spring was breaking

out in my heart.

I said: Along which secret aqueduct,

Oh water, are you coming to me,

water of a new life

that I have never drunk?

Last night, as I was sleeping

I dreamt–marvelous error!–

that I had a beehive

here inside my heart.

And the golden bees

were making white combs

and sweet honey

from my old failures.

Last night, as I was sleeping,

I dreamt–marvelous error!–

that a fiery sun was giving

light inside my heart.

It was fiery because I felt

warmth as from a hearth,

and sun because it gave light

and brought tears to my eyes

Last night, as I was sleeping,

I dreamt–marvelous error!–

that it was God I had

here inside my heart.

When the light around you lessons

And your thoughts darken until

Your body feels fear turn

Cold as a stone inside,

When you find yourself bereft

Of any belief in yourself

And all you unknowingly

Leaned on has fallen,

When one voice commands

Your whole heart,

And it is raven dark,

Steady yourself and see

That it is your own thinking

That darkens your world,

Search and you will find

A diamond-thought of light,

Know that you are not alone

And that this darkness has purpose;

Gradually it will school your eyes

To find the one gift your life requires

Hidden within this night-corner.

Invoke the learning

Of every suffering

You have suffered.

Close your eyes.

Gather all the kindling

About your heart

To create one spark.

That is all you need

To nourish the flame

That will cleanse the dark

Of its weight of festered fear.

A new confidence will come alive

To urge you toward higher ground

Where your imagination

Will learn to engage difficulty

As its most rewarding threshold!

If it’s not yet obvious to you,

the real reason for this,

and all seasons…

is you.

A more perfect child of the Universe

has never lived.

Until now, only celebrations cloaked

in myth and mystery

could hint at your divine heritage

and sacred destiny.

You are life’s prayer of becoming and its answer.

The first light at the dawn of eternity,

drawn from the ether,

so that I might know my own depth,

discover new heights,

and revel in seas of blessed emotion.

A pioneer into illusion,

an adventurer into the unknown,

and a lifter of veils.

Courageous, heroic, and exalted

by legions in the unseen.

To give beyond reason…

to care beyond hope…

to love without limit…

to reach, stretch, and dream…

in spite of your fears.

These are the hallmarks of divinity –

traits of the immortal – your badges of honor.

May you wear them with a pride as great

as the immeasurable pride we feel for you.

Your light has illuminated darkened paths,

your gaze has lifted broken spirits,

and already your life

has changed the course of history.

This is the time of year we celebrate you.

Lake Meditation

Indeed, there are Masters among you.

Scattered amongst the continents

to shine their lights as brightly as possible,

simply by being themselves,

living mostly “ordinary” lives.

Until, with enough of them walking the earth,

at the deepest psychological levels,

a tipping point will be reached

so that all others

will be raised ever higher into the light,

simply for being in their midst,

as if through osmosis.

Of course… there’s always been the risk

that these Masters, once immersed

into a sea of limited thinkers,

might mistaken their “ordinary” lives

as simply ordinary lives,

think they’re simply one of the herd,

and therefore not appreciate their unique perspectives,

grasp their mission,

or love themselves as they are

no matter what others think,

and the whole osmosis thing won’t work.

How you holding up?

Loving yourself?

Just checking…

~Gazing at the Light

Gazing at the Light

The lamps are different, but the Light is the same.

So many garish lamps in the dying brain’s lamp-show,

forget about them.

Concentrate on the essence,

concentrate on the Light.

In lucid bliss, calmly smoking off its own holy fire,

the Light streams towards you from

all things,

all people,

all possible permutations

of good,

The lamps are different,

but the Light is the same.

One matter, one energy, one Light, one Light-mind,

endlessly emanating all things.

One turning and burning diamond,

one, one, one.

Ground yourself, strip yourself down,

to blind loving silence.

Stay there, until you see

you are gazing at the Light

with its own ageless eyes.

Living with It
People Who Don’t Get It

You may be someone who understands the true nature of reality,

perceiving deeply that we all emanate from the same source,

that we are all essentially one,

and that we are here on earth to love one another.

To understand this

is to be awakened to the true nature of the self,

and it is a blessing.

people who just don’t get it

are seemingly everywhere and, often, in positions of power.

It can be frustrating and painful to watch them behave unconsciously.

We all encounter individuals of this bent in our families,

at work, and in all areas of public life.

It is easy to find ourselves feeling intolerant of these people,

wishing we could be free of them even though we know that

separation from them is an illusion.

It helps sometimes to think of us all as

different parts of one psyche.

Just as within our own hearts and minds

we have dark places that need healing,

the heart and mind of the world has its dark places.

The health of the whole organism depends upon

the relative health of the individuals within it.

We increase harmony when we hold onto the light,

not allowing it to be darkened by judgment,

anger, and fear about those who behave unconsciously.

It’s easier to accomplish this

if we don’t focus on the negative qualities of individuals

and instead focus on how increasing our own light

will increase the light of the overall picture.

When dealing with people who seem very unconscious,

it helps to remember that every one

must find their own way to awakening

and that the experiences they are having

are an essential part of their process.

Holding them in the light of our own energy

may be the best way to awaken theirs.

At the same time, we are inspired by their example

to look within

and shed light on our own unconscious places,

sacrificing the urge to judge and

surrendering instead to humble self-inquiry.
